Quiz Night: Brunger, Fielding and Pritchard Retain Title
The hugely popular quiz night took place on Tuesday evening, very much due to the hard work and enthusiasm of Rod Rigby.
17 teams battled it out through the 10 rounds of questions, pausing only to catch their breath for a delicious half time lasagne and salad.
The variety and sheer volume of questions kept everyone on their toes and even the most knowledgeable of our members were tested. Rod certainly had to be at his best but managed to keep the lively audience in order through his own inimitable style.
Congratulations to the team of Chris and Anne Pritchard, Andy and Alison Fielding, and Andy and Leslie Brunger who eventually came up trumps beating the stiff competition on the second of two tie-break questions.
Many thanks to Rod and his admin team whom I believe are already working on next years questions!
Windlesham Away: Queen Elizabeth Foundation @ The Berkshire
On Tuesday, ten of our members made a charitable donation to represent Windlesham Golf Club in the annual Queen Elizabeth Foundation charity day at The Berkshire. Once again the Windlesham handicap travelled well and three of our members were in the prizes.
Coming second in the team prize were Dave Naylor and Tiku Patel and nearest the pin was won by Kar Martin.
The day, as ever, proved very popular with a total of 72 players in attendance. Between the golf and the auction lots, the day raised in excess of £9000 for the Queen Elizabeth Foundation.
Defibrillator Training
For those that are interested, Chris Dalton is co-ordinating 3 training sessions on use of the defibrillator. These are funded by WGML and are on a first come first served basis. Currently the first session is full and there is a second one arranged for the afternoon of Wednesday the 23rd November. The final session will be an evening one with the date to be arranged. Further details on availability should be obtained from Chris Dalton email, chrisdalton43@gmail.com.
Windlesham Ladies played their inaugural match in this Interclub Trophy event on Monday. What a great start! The team of Kathryn Naylor, Joan Bird, Jane Carter, Victoria Westgarth and Sue Moynihan swept the board at home to North Hants GC, winning all 5 of their matches. Our ladies kept their nerve with Jane and Sue winning their matches on the 18th hole and Joan Bird braving the cold for 20 holes before eventually winning on the second extra hole.
8 local teams compete for the Maple Leaf Trophy during the winter months. Ladies with handicaps of 25-36 can participate and teams are split in to two leagues of 4, with the teams in each league playing each other home and away. The two league winners will compete in the final at North Hants GC in April.
Good luck Ladies for the next round at home to Alresford on Monday!
Result of this week's Highwaymen's Roll-Up, Winter Eclectic Stableford Qualifier competition, was:

2nd - Norlan McIntyre - 38 points on c/b
3rd - Peter Kennell - 37 points
4th - Robin Tyler - 36 points on c/b
There were 51 players.
Tee Position Changes
You will have noticed that although the clocks have gone back we still have the white tees in play. Leigh Powell has requested the white tees remain in use during the winter and that he positions as he, the pros and course conditions dictate. On a day to day basis this may mean some white tees are forward, or certainly in a more 'friendly' position than what we are used to.
However on competition days, the tee of the day will be setup as per qualifying requirements, whites with a SSS of 72 (36 points) and yellows SSS 70 (38 points). The proposal is to manage the white and yellow tees as follows:
- Div 1 Stableford's will be played off the White Tees (note Div 2 players are eligible to play in Div 1 Qualifiers and if choosing to do so will play off White Tees)
- Div 2 Stableford's will be played off the Yellow Tees (note Div 1 players are eligible to play in Div 2 Qualifiers and if choosing to do so will play off Yellow Tees)
- The 1st Tuesday in the month Men's Midweek Stableford will be played off Yellow Tees
Whilst the proposal is to manage the tees as above for this winter, monitoring of competition attendance and members' feedback will determine whether this becomes a permanent arrangement for the winter seasons. Any questions or clarifications to Mark Lambert - competition@windleshamgolf.com
